TM - New DNS Server Address

I think some of you might have encountered some internet disruptions services, especially those using Streamyx and Unifi services.

Actually TM (Telekom Malaysia Bhd.) have announced in their website that the age old DNS servers is now in upgrading and they have changed the IP address of their DNS servers.

Previous DNS Server IP address :-
  • Primary DNS = 202.188.1.5
  • Secondary DNS = 202.188.0.133
The new changes only affect the Primary DNS server, thus the new configuration as below :-
  • Primary DNS = 1.9.1.9
  • Secondary DNS = 202.188.0.133
TM have advised to configure your router to "auto-assign" in the DNS options, but some of us preferred to manually configure this, if that's the case please re-configure the DNS as shown above.

For more information, please visit TM's website here.

  1. Recently my office encountered the same problems, but due to we have our own AD & DNS server the above settings does not apply. As such I've to re-configured my Firewall to have a "Static DNS" address that includes our local DNS server IP address and the new TM's DNS server IP address.

    Some manual work required :-

    1. Run --> CMD --> "As administrator".
    2. Type --> ipconfig /flushdns --> [ENTER].
    3. Type --> ipconfig /registerdns --> [ENTER].
    4. Restart Internet Explorer.

    Note : This works only in IE, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox is not tested.

    Happy Testing !

  4. I've overlook some settings in the wireless router, the built-in DHCP server must also be updated accordingly.

    Else you will end up using the old DNS server address, please do update your DHCP server in your router.

    1. Yeah, agreed on that. As my router has been replaced several times (due to thunderstorm), most of the configurations is done manually.

      I don't trust auto-configuration nor the default settings provided by manufacturer.

    1. Sorry for the late reply, the DNS I've mentioned here is manually configure, if your router supports dynamic assignment then it should be working fine.

      You can check this by run -> CMD -> ipconfig /all

      If the DNS displayed the correct IP then you are fine.

  8. How to change the DNS in mobile phones? Also, is there a way to permanently change it in the modem settings itself?
    Thank you

    1. If you're referring to your mobile phone connecting to your home wifi, then it will be abit hard to verify this cause each manufacturer's configurations is different.

      But you can run this on a Windows computer, run -> CMD -> ipconfig /all -> [ENTER].

      If your Wifi/Local Area Connection return a result with TM's new DNS IP Address then you're safe, else you will need to refer to your router's manual on how to configure the DNS manually or to auto-configure option.

  9. Better not to use those addresses or in genetal Telekom Malaysia DNS because Telekom Malaysia is using DNS-spoofing to spam their customers with Nervesis Midas malware.
